Laura Nielsen, PsyD

Dr. Laura Nielsen earned both her Master’s Degree and Doctorate (PsyD) from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in Sacramento, California. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, and is licensed to practice in both California and Nevada.

Dr. Nielsen completed her internship and residency at the Sutter Center for Psychiatry in Sacramento, with her residency focused on Child and Adolescent Psychology. She has received specialized training in the assessment and treatment of juveniles and developed a passion for identifying and treating severe mental illness through her experiences in inpatient hospital settings.

Her clinical training spans multiple environments, including K-12 schools, emergency departments, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospitals, and the Anxiety Treatment Center in Sacramento. Her dissertation explored personality differences and psychopathy among criminal offenders. Following licensure, she returned to Reno to work alongside her father and mentor, Dr. Earl Nielsen.

Dr. Nielsen’s professional interests include cognitive and diagnostic assessments, psychotherapy for individuals of all ages, and the treatment of children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, cognitive, and developmental disorders. She is married and has a teenage stepdaughter and a baby boy born in March 2025.
