Michelle Jim-Katenay earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Gerontology from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) in 2003. She went on to earn her Master of Social Work degree from Walden University in 2020. She is a Nevada State-certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC-S) and supervisor, as well as a Nevada State-licensed master social worker (LMSW), and is currently completing her clinical social work internship (CSW-I).
A Shoshone-Paiute from the Ducky Valley Indian Reservation, Michelle grew up in Owyhee, NV, and has been a Reno resident for 27 years. She is an active member of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) community and has dedicated 22 years of service to the colony. Michelle previously served as the program manager for the RSIC Senior Center for five years and has extensive experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, adolescents, elders, those involved in the court system, and in suicide prevention and education.
Outside of her professional work, Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband, Eric, their two children, Larsa and Daymian, and their dog, Chauncey.
